Contest: Gross food writing contest

Here is something unusual in so many ways. It’s All A Matter of Perspective is holding a short story writing contest…on odd foods. If this contest is up your alley, then read on.

How To Join

  1. Choose any food you find intriguing, alarming, funny, revolting, or unusual – but it must be a food that is considered tasty somewhere, by someone. No stories of cannibalism or of people eating airplanes or bicycles and such.
  2. In the first part of the story, describe your main character’s first encounter with this thing and what leads to him to eat it.
  3. Stories should be entertaining and humorous, if at all possible. Your characters’ motivation should not be mere hunger and desperation; that would be far too easy.
  4. Stories should be no longer than about 2000 words, published as a post in your blog. If you do not have a blog, start one for free at blogger.com or wordpress.com.
  5. Include a link back to http://jahangiri.us/news/2010/02/02/lagross-gastronomique-a-writing-contest/
  6. Post a comment here containing a link back to your masterpiece. The first words of your comment should by MY ENTRY, followed by a link. Include the title, if you like, and a brief teaser or description (optional).

Prizes

First place – $10
2nd place – $5
3rd place – $5

*will be sent via Paypal

Judging

  • Great storytelling, first and foremost.
  • Originality.
  • Grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Reactions of other readers. This is not a vote, or a “popularity poll.” However, interesting comments spontaneously provoked by your story (and posted as comments to it) will have some weight. Because readers’ opinions count, too.

Isn’t this a fun contest? You don’t have to try the exotic food! Just use your imagination. Submit your entries by February 28, 2010 11:59 PM Central Standard Time.
